Nature Happenings - April

• ·Broad-tailed and Black-chinned Hummingbirds are arriving. Be sure to have their feeders ready!

• ·Hummingbird nectar recipe: Mix four parts water to one part table sugar….no red dye and no sugar substitutes.

• ·Bullocks and Scott's Orioles begin to arrive. Place your orange-colored nectar feeder or half an orange, juicy side up, out in the open to entice flying orioles to your yard.

•  Oriole nectar recipe is the same as a hummingbird's (four parts water to one part table sugar). Orioles also like oranges and grape jelly.

• Both American and Lesser Goldfinches are molting into their bright yellow feathers.

• Earth Day is April 22.

• ·Lyrids meteor shower, late April.
